NBPTS Video Steps

Running the Camera:

1. Put tape in Mini DV camera (make sure tape is not locked), or make sure memory card has enough time in the Canon FS200
2. If you’re using the tripod, go ahead and screw the footplate into the bottom of the camera to later click into the tripod
3. Set your camera up high so you can easily pan the room, seeing the teachers and students.  Yes, this means wearing pants and flats on taping days, be safe on top of the desks!
4. Connect power cable from camera to wall if you want to record for extended time

Microphone use:
  • Put battery in cord on microphone and turn switch to on, put microphone into green jack
  • Put on headphones (red jack) to listen during taping to make sure the microphone is working. For best results, squeeze them up against your head to know that you’re definitely hearing what the microphone is picking up
5. Move switch by your thumb to power “on” position.
6. Green light should be by tape, not memory or play/edit
7. Push in Red Button to record

Saving to iMac (or other Mac/iMovie devices)
  1. Plug in power on camera, and then into the Mac using USB drive, turn camera on.  Choose “attach to PC Computer” when dialog comes up.

In iMovie, create a new project title “TeacherName Timed DVD” or the name of the entry, “TeacherName Entry2”
Now, go to the original cut of the movie (not in the projects section) to grab those little parts of time that you need. See the final time of the project to make sure you’re within the required time.
Burn iDVD of this project. Don’t label it, let the teacher label it with their NBPTS ID number.
